They do not jump or fly but they do have amazing speed.

Lice run from bright lights, offensive odors, and are evasive.

Pets can not transmit lice.

There are an estimated 6 to 12 million reported cases per year.

The average time of infestation before diagnosis is 4 to 6 weeks.

Head lice prefer clean hair, it has nothing to do with cleanliness.

Just like mosquitoes, lice need human blood for survival.

Head lice can survive for up to 24 hours after being separated from their human host.

Nits (lice eggs) are laid on the hair shaft and resemble a tadpole appearance,  they are attached only to one side of the hair shaft.

Children are not the only ones who get lice, if your child has lice you are at risk.

Life span for a louse is 30 days.

A mature louse can lay 5 to 10 eggs daily.

Nits (eggs) hatch in 5 to 7 days.

A newly hatched louse matures in 7 to 10 days.

Chemical based shampoos have been scientifically proven to be only 53% effective. Not to mention the potential for neurological toxins.

A nit contains a baby louse. Once it hatches the nit is now an empty shell that grows out with your hair.

Lice leave a scent that actually "calls" other lice telling them you are a good food source.

FACTS ABOUT HEAD LICE (or Louse)

Head lice are six legged blood sucking parasites and the sizes range from 2mm-4mm. To put it in perspective, a nymph is the size of a grain of sand and a full grown louse is the size of a piece of rice.

Lice are primarily spread with head to head contact.

Lice adapt like chameleons and can vary from a grayish white to a reddish brown.
